The Google DeepMind legal team is looking for an adept and enthusiastic Legal
Counsel to partner with our product and research teams to help advise on legal
issues relevant to developing and releasing AI research and products. You will
also work with different parts of the business, to make sure we are prepared
for forthcoming regulatory changes that may impact our technology as well as
helping to advise on processes for informing and developing legislative
changes in AI across the jurisdictions in which we operate. Finally, you will
collaborate with other members of the legal team and with outside counsel when
needed.

The Role
Partnering with product and research teams to design and implement best
practices in areas such as data ingestion, privacy, competition and
security.
Advising senior management on risks associated with product launches and
AI research direction and presenting options to mitigate or eliminate
those risks.
Working with the public policy team to establish and refine external
advocacy positions around key products, research and topics.
Considering existing and forthcoming regulatory regimes for AI technology
and advising on implications for Google DeepMind research and products,
and associated compliance. Engaging with external stakeholders around
these areas as needed.
Identify and advise on legal considerations around data and dataset usage
(e.g. IP, licensing, privacy, policy, and governance considerations).
Working with commercial lawyers to ensure that commercial deals take
account of relevant risks pertaining to individual products and research,
where relevant.
Collaborating with and advising multiple cross functional groups including
Marketing, Comms, Security and Responsibility teams.

You are adept at balancing legal, cultural and business demands and
produce practical, solution-focused advice.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience in private practice and/or an in-house team.
Qualified solicitor in England and Wales or US.
Preferred qualifications
Prior in-house experience working within legal teams at a technology
company and/or within government.
Interest or experience in innovative technology, including in the field of
artificial intelligence research or deployment of machine learning
systems.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $217,000 -
$321,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about
