About the role

The Firmware team is looking for a Software Engineering Manager who is passionate about leading an outstanding team of seven engineers that enable current and next generation of IPUs.

You'll be responsible for your team's high level of output, aligning on business objectives, providing context, setting expectations clearly, and acting as a hub for critical information. Supporting and building upon Graphcore's positive culture and holding each other accountable for outcomes. You'll quickly become proficient with Graphcore's way of working and methodologies and be a skilled coach for your team members.

You will:

  • Be an effective people manager, and provide regular support through 1:1s
  • Help engineers develop their careers, mentoring and evolving their skill levels and implementing professional development plans
  • Communicate cross-functionally and drive engineering efforts
  • Hold your own in technical discussions, have strategic influence, and lead key decisions and outcomes
  • Work closely with our dedicated talent acquisition function to expand the team, including sourcing candidate, participation in conferences/events, and onboarding new employees
  • Administrative work including approving time off requests and expenses, and focal reviews
  • Operate in a constantly evolving environment, adapting quickly to new information and re-prioritising as needed
  • Help define and drive regular development of our technical roadmap to meet the needs of the team and partner teams

  • About You

    You'll be calm and able to provide emotional support and help your team members stay focused under pressure.

  • You'll have excellent people leadership and strong inter-personal skills
  • A background in software engineering, preferably in low-level embedded, resource constrained environments
  • Knowledge of OS fundamentals ideally real-time operating systems
  • Experience in delivering software solutions in a timely, well-organised manner
  • Communication skills and detail-orientated
  • Knowledge of Agile practices and methodologies desirable
